Conservation of priority species and habitats of Andros island protected area. Integrated socio-economic considerations (LIFE ANDROS PARK)

The overall project objective is to implement priority conservation and restoration actions to significantly restore and improve the conservation status of the Annex I 92/43/EEC priority terrestrial habitat alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior (91E0*), as well as the priority marine species Monachus monachus*, Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii* and Larus audouinii* within SAC GR4220001 and SPA GR4220028. It will carry out well structured, effective, socially acceptable and economically viable conservation measures in full compliance with Birds/Habitats Directives and PAF for Greece, harmonized with the objectives of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, with the active involvement of key stakeholders and volunteer groups as well as support of external experts. The ultimate vision of these efforts is to establish holistic management of Andros Natura 2000 sites and their protection zones as adopted by a relevant Ministerial Decree in the form of “Andros Island Park”.
